Juvenile Great-Horned Owl in Recovery
Recently, our team admitted a juvenile Great-horned owl found in a particularly vulnerable state—leaning against someone’s garage, unable to perch or fly the short distances expected for its age. This late-season discovery is concerning as it indicates the owl may have faced challenges that hindered its normal development.
The owl is now in the critical care area of our center, where it’s receiving intensive treatment. Our efforts are focused on physical therapy to help it regain strength and mobility, as well as treatment for parasites that could further compromise its health.
While we typically share photos of our patients to keep our supporters informed, we’ve decided against it in this case. Despite its debilitated condition, this young owl retains a strong natural aversion to humans. It clearly communicates discomfort with human presence, and we respect its need for privacy and minimal stress during recovery.
We are committed to providing the best care possible to help this young owl return to the wild where it belongs. Thank you to everyone who supports our work and allows us to continue making a difference in the lives of these incredible birds. Stay tuned for updates on this patient’s progress.
